Moving In Less Than A Week

Moving to a new place on a short notice can be stressful. Ideally, you need a month to prepare so that you can dispose of old furniture and stored equipment that you will no longer need.

However, if you have to move to a new place in less than a week then don’t panic. We offer a 6-step process for moving that makes it easier to move on such short notice.

Plan Your Move

Instead of packing things randomly, start by planning your move. Arrange the date and time of the pickup with the movers.

Take account of all your stuff and how you will pack them. Are you planning to move everything in one go or move it in multiple trips? How many boxes you need? Do you have heavy furniture that will require bigger vans and trucks to move?

Gather Supplies

You will need sturdy carton boxes to pack all your stuff. How many boxes you need depends on how much stuff you have. For a one bedroom house with two people, you will need 15 to 20 boxes.

It is preferable to get smaller to medium sized boxes. They are easier to carry, pack and unpack. Unless you have a lot of big items, go with smaller boxes.

You can find them at your local convenience store for free, if you are lucky. You will also need duct tape and scissors.

Get Rid of Stuff You Won’t Need

When you start taking account of your stuff, you will find a lot of items that you don’t actually need. Since you will be in a hurry, you shouldn’t take everything with you.

Get rid of all the junk, especially anything that you don’t need any more. Organize all these items into three piles: dispose, recycle, and donate. Focus on donating and recycling as much as you can.

You may need to contact your local charity to take these items off your hand.

Start Packing

In a perfect move, you would organize your stuff when packing. That means clothes go in their separate boxes, crockery and pots go in theirs, so on and so forth.

You can’t be that organized when you don’t have a lot of time. It is ok to be a bit messy and focus on getting all of your stuff from point A to point B.

You can pack your dishes in with your clothes and wrap your chinaware inside your curtains. It doesn’t matter, as long as it all gets packed.

Once you finish packing a box, label it with what’s inside. If you have delicate items inside clearly mark the boxes as “handle with care”. If a box must be kept upright, draw an arrow with a bold marker and label as “this side up”.

These precautions will ensure that your boxes are handled appropriately by the moving team.

Hire Professional Packers

If you are struggling to pack your items, you can hire our professionals to do it for you. Here’s what one of our customers had to say,

I found a new job in a different state and had to move on short notice. I was struggling to manage between the work and the move, and realized I need professional help.

That’s when I hired Jensen Moving & Storage. They told me not to worry and took care of everything from packing to loading and unloading at the scheduled time. Everything went so smoothly, I was amazed.

Generally, when you pack your items on your own, the moving team does not give warranty about delivery safety.

The moving team at Jensen offers professional packing service to ensure your stuff is packed and moved with complete safety.

Oversee the Delivery

Make sure to have all your boxes packed by the date of your move. Some of the bigger furniture, like your bed, will not be packed as it will be in use. You will need to wake up early and pack them on the day of the move.

We have experienced professionals at Jensen Moving & Storage who can help you move your stuff. Our handling teams ensure that your items are handled with extreme care and your move is as smooth as possible.
